Unicredit is waiting for the accounts on Friday, the market estimates


Unicredit remains in the spotlight of Piazza Affari, pending the publication of the 2021 accounts, scheduled for Friday 28 January. All this, while speculations about an interest of the bank of Piazza Gae Aulenti in the Russian are deflated Otkritie Bank. In the morning, the stock rose by 2.8% to € 13.55, trying to recover the losses of the beginning of the year (-1.45% approximately).

But let’s get to the accounts. According to the advances of Bloomberg Intelligence, the financial statements data for the fourth quarter of 2021 of the bank led by Andrea Orcel will be characterized by a series of extraordinary items, including 900 million euros of restructuring charges relating to the strategic plan of 9 December.

Unicredit accounts, analysts’ expectations

The consensus indicates a fourth quarter of 2021 with a net loss of 1.32 billion euros, against the positive underlying net result of 204 million euros recorded in the same period of the previous year. Throughout 2021, the institution is expected to have registered a net profit of 1.66 billion euros (against the previous indication of a final result of 3.2 billion euros). The bank had instead closed 2020 with an underlying net profit of 1.26 billion euros (book loss of 2.79 billion euros).

For the fourth quarter, analysts of Bestinver they forecast a slowdown in revenues of 4 billion (-4%) and a loss of 1.45 billion, higher than the consensus. Bestinver, however, believes that in the whole of 2021 Unicredit has registered a net profit of over 3.7 billioni while I CET1r is expected to be 13.5% -14%, also taking into account the buyback and dividend distribution shares.

Finally, the estimates of Credit Suisse, which saw an adjusted net profit of € 3.9 billion for the full year. At the same time, earnings per share are expected to be 1.1 euros. Pending the accounts of the fourth quarter of 2021, the research office of the Swiss bank has confirmed on the Unicredit un rating outperform with target price at € 15.10.
The judgment starts from the bank’s growth expectations, “especially in Central and Eastern Europe” reads a note, in which analysts say they expect “management to engage in different conversations on potential mergers and acquisitions in several geographical areas, in line with the strategy outlined in December and supported by the flexibility granted by the excess capital.
