The Lakers recall Doumbouya

Cut by the Los Angeles Lakers last November, Sekou Doumbouya was again recruited by the Californian franchise in the form of a “two-way” contract allowing him to play in the NBA but also in the G-League.

Sekou Doumbouya will not return to the Old Continent immediately. While a player like Axel Toupane preferred to return to France after being cut by the Golden State Warriors ahead of the season, the native of Conakry continued to believe in it. Last November, the winger or power forward had to give up his place in the Los Angeles Lakers squad to Chaundee Brown Jr after he could only play two games and suffered a foot injury. Coupe when he had signed a “two-way” contract at the start of the season, the former Poitiers and Limoges player will make a totally unexpected return alongside LeBron James. Indeed, while center Jay Huff suffered the same fate while living his first season in the NBA, Sekou Doumbouya takes advantage of the freed up space to rejoin the Lakers squad with the objective of staying there until the end of the season.

Doumbouya has a second chance

A little over two years after being drafted in 15th position by the Detroit Pistons, with whom he did not necessarily have the chance to shine, Sekou Doumbouya thought of landing in Los Angeles, where he arrived after spending a few weeks to the Brooklyn Nets and then being cut by the Houston Rockets, but his first stint didn’t live up to his expectations. As at the start of the season, the 21-year-old signed a “two-way” contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. In other words, he will be able to evolve as much with the Californian franchise in the NBA as with its subsidiary in the G-League, the South Bay Lakers. But the main thing for the one who wears the number 45 will be to get as much playing time as possible alongside players such as LeBron James or Anthony Davis and take advantage of this second chance in California to prove yourself in order to launch his career in the prestigious North American league on the right track.
