A new Chromecast is coming and it will be cheaper than existing models, according to Protocol. It will especially interest people for whom having the best image quality is not a priority.
A new Chromecast for 2022
This new Chromecast with Google TV will support 1080p but not 4K unlike the existing model. At least there will be support for the 60 Hz display. In terms of technical characteristics, we are talking about the Amlogic S805X2 processor and the Mali-G31 graphics chip. The advantage is that AV1 video codec support is present. For the rest, there is 2 GB of RAM but the amount of storage is not specified. The current model has 8GB of storage, which is more than light according to many users who have the HDMI stick.
The exact price is currently unknown. But it could well be a price around 30 dollars / euros. Google still sells an entry-level Chromecast for $35 and that model is three years old. The new one would have the advantage of being more interesting, with a remote control in the box.
Last element: availability. The new Chromecast HD is due out this year in the US and Canada. A release in France and other countries should also take place, but potentially a little later.
