Covid-19 in France: the schedule for lifting health restrictions

If France has recorded more than 425,000 positive cases of Covid-19 this Thursday, January 20,the evolution of the health situation “allows us to envisage an easing of constraints from the first days of February” and this thanks to “a new tool”, the vaccination pass judged the Prime Minister, Jean Castex during a press conference this Thursday, January 20. “This exceptional wave is not over but the situation is starting to evolve more favorably,” he said.

The booster dose will be extended to all 12-17 year olds from this Monday, January 24

The Prime Minister recalled the importance of vaccination to fight against the virus and in order to accelerate it, he announced the opening of the booster vaccination for adolescents aged 12 to 17 from Monday 24 January. Jean Castex also hammered home the urgency of advancing the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11. A fully vaccinated person is 4.5 times less likely to catch covid and 25 times less likely to be hospitalized in critical care,” he said at the press conference.

Jean Castex has also expanded the list of health professionals able to carry out screening tests in order to unclog pharmacies and laboratories. Here is the list of professionals now authorized to carry out screening tests to Covid-19: “speech therapist, podiatrist-podiatrist, orthoptist, medical physicist, occupational therapist, psychomotrician, audioprosthetist, dietitian, optician-lunemaker, orthoprosthetist, podo-orthotist, ocularist, epithetist, orthopedist-orthist, dental assistant.”

The vaccine pass should come into effect this Monday, January 24

The vaccination pass should come into force as of this Monday, January 24 for all people aged 16 and over. “Relieving the constraints from the first days of February thanks to the vaccination pass which will come into force on Monday January 24 subject to the decision of the Constitutional Council”, announced the Prime Minister. In addition, the vaccine pass can be activated for people who have made their first injection before February 15 under two conditions:

  • take their second dose the month following the first injection,
  • justify a negative test of less than twenty-four hours to access the main places open to the public where the vaccination pass applies.

Health restrictions that will end on Wednesday February 2

The Prime Minister has unveiled a timetable for lifting health restrictions in two stages. Here are the measures that end from Wednesday, February 2:

  • removal of gauges in sports and cultural establishments which welcome the seated public, with the wearing of a mask;
  • end of wearing a mask outdoors ;
  • end of compulsory teleworking in companies but it remains recommended.

What it will be possible to do again from Wednesday 16 February

The second stage of the schedule for lifting health restrictions presented by the Prime Minister provides good news for the social life of the French. Here is what will be possible again from Wednesday, February 16:

  • reopening of nightclubs ;
  • resumption of standing concerts ;
  • consumption allowed again in the cinemas and transport ;
  • consumption standing allowed again in bars and cafes.
