Al-Jazeera journalist shot dead


Tragic news from the Palestinian territories. Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, one of the best known of the pan-Arab television channel Al-Jazeera, was shot dead on Wednesday morning May 11 while covering armed clashes in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank.

In a statement, Al-Jazeera claimed that Shireen Abu Akleh was killed “cold-blooded by Israeli forces​, adding that the reporter was wearing a jacket that identified her as a reporter. “Al-Jazeera condemns this heinous crime, which aims to prevent the media from doing their job”indicates the Qatari channel, calling on the international community to “hold the Israeli occupying forces responsible for intentionally targeting and killing Shireen”.

For its part, the Israeli army said in a statement that it had carried out operations in the Palestinian camp of Jenin and other areas of the West Bank in the past few hours, in order to “to apprehend persons suspected of terrorism”.
